Hello RPYB Families!
We have received quite a few questions regarding volunteer requirements and hope this email helps clarify the expectations!
Here at River Park Youth Baseball, our families are a core ingredient for our league’s success, and we thank you for your help making our league run smoothly throughout the season!
In short, there are two separate volunteer components:
Your league volunteer hours
Snack Shack coverage (coordinated by your team parent)
Additionally, there are other shared responsibilities that go with being part of a team, such as game day support: score keeping (via GameChanger or a book) and field set up are the responsibility of the home team, while checking bathrooms after the game is the responsibility of the away team. Additionally, both teams should always check the bleachers and score box to help keep the field clean!
League Volunteer Requirements
Every family is required to volunteer for a total of 6 hours over the season OR you can buy out your volunteer hour commitment for $200 per family.
Each family is ALSO required to help with shifts in our snack shack and BBQ over the season for each team your family is a part of. The snack shack is separate from your league volunteer hours. You are able to hire a teen for your snack shack shifts, but BBQ shifts must be covered by an adult 18 years or older.
Volunteer Opportunities
Thank you to all of the families who volunteered to help with our Field Prep days and came out to help run our wonderful Opening Day celebrations! We will have a lot of opportunities throughout the season to meet your volunteer hours. Please see upcoming opportunities below!

FAQs On Volunteering
Q: I finished my volunteer hours. Do I still need to sign up for a Snack Shack shift?
A: YES! Your snack shack shifts are separate from your league volunteer hours, and we rely on all of our team families to help our snack shack run!
Q: I have three children playing in the league. Does that mean I need to volunteer 18 hours?!
A: NO! It is six hours per family! However, each team has their own snack shack coverage, so if you have multiple children in the league, you will spend a few days flipping burgers, handing out icees, or hiring a teen to do it for you ;)
Q: My partner is a coach. Do I still need to volunteer?
A: It depends! If your family member is one of the four official team positions (team parent + 3 coaching staff), your league volunteer hours are met. However, we still need your help at the snack shack!
Q: Our family is also a sponsor. Do we still need to help with Snack Shack shifts?
A: YES! Thank you so much for your financial support of our league. If you have a child on a team, we still need your help at the snack shack though.
Q: My team asked me to help with GameChanger. Does that count as volunteer hours?
A: Unfortunately, no. Part of being part of a team is being able to help with game-day duties as needed. Thank you for your help keeping score!
Q: If I only complete half of my volunteer hours, will you prorate my volunteer check?
A: NO! Sorry, but the league is not able to adjust the volunteer hours payment in this way. Once your six hours are complete, we will void your check. If at the end of the season your hours have not yet been met, we will then cash your check.
